Pediatric Occupational Therapy (OT) for Autism in Missouri & Kentucky

Helping your child regulate, play, and thrive in a setting that feels like home.

If your child struggles with transitions, emotional regulation, fine motor skills, or sensory overload, you aren’t alone. Our specialized pediatric Occupational Therapy team is here to give your family real, life-changing strategies that make daily life easier and more joyful.

Regulation First: Our Unique Approach to Autism Therapy

Many traditional clinics jump straight into tabletop tasks, which can lead to frustration and meltdowns if a child’s nervous system is overwhelmed. At Sensory Solutions, we do things differently. We utilize a “Sensory Plus Tasks” approach.

Before we ask your child to focus on a milestone, we ensure their unorganized brain feels completely regulated and safe. We use specialized, play-based sensory tools to ground their nervous system:

  • Linear Swings: Gentle, predictable back-and-forth movement to calm an overstimulated system.
  • The Squeeze Machine: A fun, therapeutic tool your child crawls through that provides a soothing, deep-pressure “hug.”
  • Multi-Sensory Learning: We trade frustrating worksheets for finger painting, shaving cream, and sand play to build skills without it feeling like “work.”

Key Milestones We Support

Our pediatric OTs break down complex tasks into manageable, playful steps. We partner with families to help children build independence in everyday life activities:

  • Self-Regulation & Transitions: Moving from one activity or environment to another without intense tantrums or anxiety.
  • The Pre-Writing Ladder: Building visual-motor skills from the ground up. (Did you know a child must master a diagonal line before they can physically write a capital letter “A”? We build those rungs through play).
  • Fine Motor Control: Developing scissor skills, hand strength, and bilateral coordination.
  • Daily Living Skills: Mastering independent habits like getting dressed, zipping jackets, buttoning shirts, and washing hands.
  • Selective Eating Support: Working alongside with our speech teams to expand food varieties for sensory-sensitive eaters.

The Sensory Solutions Difference

No Waitlists Commitment

Developmental windows for children are incredibly short. You shouldn’t have to wait months for answers. We strive to contact all new referrals on the same day and schedule comprehensive evaluations within the same week.

  • A Place That Feels Like Home: Our clinics are explicitly designed to look and feel like welcoming houses—not sterile, intimidating hospitals.
  • Therapists Who Put Care First: Our therapists are never pressured by rigid hospital “productivity units.” They have the freedom to spend unhurried, quality time with your child and give you a dedicated 5+ minute download after every single session.
  • Certified ADOS-2 Testing: Every Monday, our joint OT and Speech team administers the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2)—the gold standard, play-based assessment tool used to help pediatricians form accurate diagnoses.
