Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy includes services to address the functional need of a child related to adaptive development, adaptive behavior as well as play, sensory, motor and postural development. These services are designed to improve the child’s functional ability to perform tasks in home, school, and community settings.
Occupational therapists at Sensory Solutions use a sensory integrative approach which works to activate the body’s different sensory systems including our movement system (vestibular), our muscle position system (propricoptive), tactile system, visual system, auditory system, olfactory (smell) system and gustatory (taste) system. By impacting these systems, we can see changes in areas of difficulty including: feeding skills, grooming, dressing, bowel/bladder control, sleep, fine motor skills, attention and behavior.
Our occupational therapists are trained in programs such as Therapeutic Listening, Handwriting Without Tears, and SOS Feeding Approach and use these and other therapeutic interventions to create unique, client-centered treatment plans for each child.
We are certified in iLs Integrated Listening System. iLs are based on the fact that we can change our brain – we can essentially re-wire it through specific and repeated stimulation, a concept known as neuroplasticity. As in building strength and endurance with physical exercise, we are able to build neurological pathways and synaptic activity at any age.
Testimonials
“His speech grammar is so much better and clearer to understand. He sometimes bunch them together, but not all the time. He exercises more now. We have to sit with him and work with him with his drawing. We fail at that, but will get on it. But we are very pleased with the growth and excited to see the full blossom.”
“Lexi has been going to Sensory Solutions for a few years now. She has always enjoyed going and really has liked her therapists throughout her time at Sensory Solutions. She has improved in many areas that she struggled with early on. These areas we have seen improvement in are fine motor, physical, speech, and social skills. Recently her handwriting has been getting better, especially cursive writing. She has also improved in the areas of being able to better express her feelings, has a better understanding of social situations, and is getting better at staying on topic in conversations. We have always felt like everyone at Sensory Solutions really cares about the children they provide therapy for and we would highly recommend them for anyone that is looking for therapy services for their child.”
“Sensory Solutions has been an incredible blessing for my son. When he started back in February, he was eating a handful of crunchy foods due to sensory issues and was considered a problem feeder. He was behind in language and we had a difficult time understanding him. All of this left him miserable. With the help of OT/Feeding Therapy, Speech Therapy, and eventually Behavioral Therapy, Brooks is eating and talking up a storm and is HAPPY!! We were also able to have the ADOS test done and receive his ASD diagnosis at Sensory Solutions. This has been invaluable to us and helps us to understand our Brooks better and opens up doors for him getting the help he will need in preschool and beyond. I cannot thank the staff enough for all they have done for my son and in turn our entire family.”
