Physical Therapy for the pediatric population covers a broad array of conditions from rehabilitation after an injury to treating premature babies and children with congenital or acquired conditions that effect their development. Education is also a very important part of our practice. Parental involvement with a therapy program is key to a successful outcome.
We treat a variety of conditions ranging from injuries such as sprains, strains, and fractures to congenital anomalies such as Down Syndrome and Torticollis to neurological injuries resulting in developmental delays, Cerebral Palsy, and difficulties with mobility and daily functions. Every child is different and is treated so at Sensory Solutions. Every patient is given one on one treatment with a board certified Physical Therapist as well as an individualized therapy plan that includes a home exercise program for parents and caregivers to work toward reaching specific goals.
Treatment sessions will include a variety of activities depending on the child and the goals of treatment. We focus on improving a child’s function within their home and community environments. Physical therapy can help improve a child’s strength, range of motion, posture, balance, endurance and mobility skills including crawling and walking. We may also recommend orthotics to improve foot positioning and walking skills or durable medical equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs.
Some of the conditions commonly seen for physical therapy services are prematurity, torticollis, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities, hypotonia and developmental delay among others. If you have concerns regarding your child’s development, talk with your pediatrician and look for delays with gross motor milestones such as:
- Not rolling by 6 months
- Not sitting by 8-9 months
- Not creeping on hands and knees by 12 months
- Not walking by 15 months
- Unable to jump with both feet off the ground by 2 years old
- Unable to walk up and down stairs unassisted by 2½ years old
- Unable to ride a tricycle by 3 years old
If you think your child is a candidate for physical therapy, please call to make an appointment for an evaluation. We look forward to meeting you and helping your child achieve their greatest potential.
“Prior to receiving physical therapy services through Sensory Solutions and working with Megan, our one year old daughter was struggling with her movement and unable to crawl or walk. We met with Megan virtually due to the pandemic and were so impressed with how quickly we started seeing positive changes and never had to leave our living room. Megan was so patient, understanding, and caring! She helped to validate our feelings and normalize our concerns. In less than four months, our daughter was not only crawling but walking, and she was back on schedule with reaching developmental milestones! We are so grateful for the support, guidance, and knowledge that Sensory Solutions provided us with! “
“Amara works with Ms. Sarah for speech and Ms. Elizabeth for Physical. She loves the both of them a I have seen her grow since she has been here. When Amara first started with both services she was not able to say certain words or their correct sounds and we also had an issue with her range of motion. Since coming her vocabulary has expanded and her gross motor/balance”
“I have had nothing less than a phenomenal experience with Sensory Solutions. My daughter has been recieving services for a little over a year now and I have noticed significant progress. My child went from not being able to tolerate independent sitting to now prep sitting independently and sitting for much longer periods of time! The staff is kind, caring, very detailed when summarizing therapy sessions, and an aboslute joy to work with. Id’ definitely recomend Sensory Solutions to any parent interested in pediatric therapy sessions!”
