Pediatric Aquatic Therapy
Evaluation takes place at the clinic and therapy takes place at the pool.
What is Pediatric Aquatic Therapy?
Aquatic physical, occupational, and speech therapies are therapy services completed in a pool rather than the clinic. Physical therapy in the pool allows the physical therapist to provide strength, balance, gross motor, and endurance training in an aquatic environment that provides external support for balance and increased resistance for strength training. The water assists with movement by eliminating gravity and unweighting the joints to allow more freedom of movement. Providing aquatic occupational therapy provides significant sensory input, which can be beneficial for many children with sensory processing difficulties and assist with overall attention and regulation. Aquatic speech-language therapy allows the speech therapist to provide treatment in a more natural and play-based environment enabling children to engage more in their environment. Clients can work on the same goals in the pool as they would in the clinic! Pediatric aquatic therapy is a fun and safe alternative to clinic treatment. Kids love it and are often more motivated to participate! And has endless benefits for children of all ages and abilities!
