Thematic Sessions in Speech Therapy

Speech therapy for children does not just have to be boring drills or worksheets. Thematic therapy sessions can engage the child, build connections from one therapy goal to another, and help to generalize to situations outside the therapy session. Pediatric therapy services can include themes such as zoo animals, camping, space, or specific holidays/celebrations. Then, specific materials can be selected that incorporate the theme, like books, songs, or dramatic play toys. Rather than use isolated activities, a thematic session can bridge understanding of several concepts, so that children can easily communicate these topics in their world outside of the therapy room.
